The first day of a new endeavor is always a little scary. At rehearsal, I have so many things on my mind: is the music too easy? Is it too hard? Have we planned too much choreography? What if no one comes to the concert? Will my mom like it? (Spoiler: she usually does!)
Still, starting something from scratch is always nerve-wracking. But there’s a small part of me that feels limitless like we can achieve anything we set our minds to. As long as the community we build is supported, connected, and rooted in love, nothing can stop us.
Why I’m Launching This Site
I’m feeling that same mix of nerves and excitement today, launching this website!
Human connection—face-to-face conversation and shared experiences—will always be my favorite way to engage with people. But my longing to talk about the creative process, reflection, and the dreams we have for the world ahead felt right for a digital home.
And with the world feeling a little darker than usual, now felt like the perfect time to launch something meant to shine light—a space to connect through music and community.
What You’ll Find Here
There’s so much happening: in the LGBTQ+ community, in the arts, and especially at the intersection of those worlds here in San Francisco.
Through monthly blogs, quarterly newsletters, and other curated content, I hope to draw on my experiences as an artist and leader to create points of connection for people who believe in the transformative power of art and belonging.
The Heart of It All
We can call it hope. Light. The horizon. Optimism—not the belief that things are fine as they are, but that we have the power to make them better.
The “still point of the turning world.” The “multitudes.” The poetry of the moment could go on and on.
In a world full of noise, my goal here is simple: to share where we might find our music.
Stay Connected
I hope you’ll check back from time to time to see what’s happening here. You can always send me a message, and if you’d like to stay in the loop, sign up for my quarterly newsletter for reflections, behind-the-scenes updates, and upcoming projects.
Talk soon,
Jake Stensberg
